Ludhiana:Finally,the state government has approved the two year old proposal of sanctioning another post of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in city. Now, the work of law and order and investigations of cases will be divided among the two senior officials.
On Thursday, the Punjab government has posted PPS Officer, Bhupinder Singh Sidhu as DCP Investigations. IPS Officer Dhruman Nimbale is posted as DCP.
Bhupinder Sidhu was earlier posted as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and SP in city.
In December 2013, the then Police Commissioner had sent a proposal to Police Headquarters for sanctioning the post of another DCP in the city. The proposal was approved by DGP and it was pending in Home Department from last two years. Now, Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal has approved the sanctioning of post of DCP-2 in Ludhiana and Amritsar Police Commissionerates.
With the increase in crime, workload and also to provide speedy justice to people, the proposal for the post of two Deputy Commissioners of Police in city was sent.
At present, there is one DCP in city and it becomes difficult to cover 30 police stations of city.
One DCP used to coordinate with the 9 Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police and 11 Assistant Commissioner of Police and after the posting of DCP-2, the work will be divided.
Sources said that now the Police Commissioner will divide the law and order and investigation work between the two officials. One officer will look after the law and order in city and another will deal with investigations.
