Jalandhar:On the directions of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the District Administration and Police Department have initiated a joint action plan for complete eradication of drug menace from the state.
Addressing a meeting of Police and Civil authorities here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that anybody found involved in illegal activities pertaining to drugs would face the music.
Besides regular checking to curb the drug supply network completely, the district administration and police authorities would establish sturdy public rapport for the getting information regarding people indulged in such anti social activities.
The DC further said that every week the progress would be reviewed in the district. He further motivated the civil authorities to play an active role in making the society drug free. “It is our prime duty to make the society drug free and we should establish administration-public rapport. No lapse on part of any official would be tolerated in eradicating drugs,” he added.
Sharma also directed the District Health Authorities to regular check chemist shops while the police teams would provide necessary help in this regard. He also directed the health authorities for regular inspection of drug de-addiction centers for the smooth run of the initiative.
He also directed the Excise and Taxation Department authorities for strongly enforcing laws to fix quantity of liquor sale. The DC also said that special competitions including debates, essay writing and awareness rallies would be organized in schools and educational institutes for creating awareness on health hazards and social evils due to drugs.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Arpit Shukla while addressing the meeting said that the department has already established Helpline number 9592918005 for Urban areas and 7837340018 for Rural areas. “Anybody can give information of persons indulging in drug sale activities,” he said.
