Mohali: “The Congress party manifesto for Punjab has concrete plans to revive industrial growth in the state which has otherwise faced slump in the past decade,’’ said Congress candidate for Mohali constituency Balbir Singh Sidhu. He said this during a poll campaign in industrial area here on Wednesday. He said that if voted to power, Congress government will announce a new industrial policy in the state in 90 days of assuming office. Reviving existing industrial units will be prime focus of the Congress government.
The Congress government will develop a focal point and provide land and others facilities for small household units including in Mohali which are operating in mix land use area, asserted Sidhu. Sidhu said that the electricity tariff for the existing and new industry would be frozen at Rs 5 per unit for the next five years.
Talking about steps for Mohali industrial sector betterment, Sidhu said that to encourage exports, Dappar dry port will be made fully functional. The Congress government will initiate dialogue with CONCOR and the Ministry of Railways to start a dedicated freight train from Dappar dry port to Mumbai and Kandla.
He further said that, many large scale units in Mohali have either closed down or only using some portion of the plot and the rest of the land is lying vacant and unused. They will be allowed to lease out vacant area to other industrial units with prior permission of the government. “The matter of shifting of high tension power lines passing through factories in industrial area, Phases 8 and 8-B will be taken on priority .”
“The Congress government will enhance annual budget for Industrial Department to Rs 1000 crore at least mainly to incentivise and develop industry in state. For the development of industrial clusters in the state, a new policy will be announced.”
