Ludhiana: The District Congress on Tuesday protested against the state government and Punjab Vidhan Speaker for murder of democracy in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
The Congress leaders also burnt the effigies of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal.
Speaking on the occasion, DCC (U) president Gurpreet Singh Gogi said that to switch off lights, air conditioners in Vidhan Sabha when Congress MLAs were sitting is murder of democracy by the Speaker following the directions of Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Gogi said that this was the last session of the government’s tenure but the government ran away from the healthy debate over the issues of public. Avoiding debate in the house proved that the government has no answer on the issues of development, law and order and others.
Those who participated in the protest, included councillor Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Narinder Sharma, Hemraj Aggarwal, Balkar Sandhu, Ashwani Sharma, Harjinder Singh Lally, Varinder Sehgal, Jai Parkash, Rajiv Raja, Abas Raja and Rajinder Singh Bajwa.
