Ludhiana: The list of Congress candidates again springs surprises on Monday as the party has hold the ticket of former Union Minister and former Member of Parliament Manish Tewari from Ludhiana East. The party has also changed the candidate from Jagraon constituency.
Earlier, ticket was allocated to Geja Ram and now, party has announced the name of former Minister Malkit Dakha from Jagraon. As Geja Ram is an outsider, he faced several protests from party workers and leaders who forced the party high command to change the ticket.
Malkit Singh Dakha was also planning to contest as an independent from Gill constituency but to control the damage party has allocated ticket to Malkit Singh Dakha.
Out of total 117, only two seats Ludhiana East and Amritsar South were still under consideration.
Till now, the name of Manish Tewari was on the top of list and after the sitting MP Ravneet Singh Bittu and his faction has threatened to revolt and support Independent candidates the party has decided to give ticket to local leader.
Sources said that now the names of councilor Sanjay Talwar and Ashwini Sharma were under consideration for the ticket and the official announcement would be made on Tuesday morning.
Rahul Gandhi has invited Manish Tewari for a meeting on Monday late evening to discuss the allocation of ticket. Sources said that Ludhiana MP has also informed the party high command that he would only contest from Jalalabad against Sukhbir Badal if Ludhiana East ticket would be given with his choice.
However, Bittu has prepared the nomination papers from Jalalabad but he will start from Delhi after the announcement of candidate from Ludhiana east, added sources.
