Ludhiana: The contracts of three assistant town planners (ATPs) of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL) have not been renewed further.
These ATPs were hired on contractual basis for one year. Their cases of renewal were sent for approval of higher authorities following which they were waiting for their fate for the last about a couple of months.
But, these ATPs were left disappointed over the decision of higher authorities as Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Satish Chandra did not renew their contract.
As per the available information, the contracts were not renewed following controversy regarding building issues in which ATPs on contracts were held responsible with others.
Municipal Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori had sent the papers for their extension of contracts in June, but the higher authorities did not extend their contracts.
Confirming the development, Thori said that three ATPs have left the MCL. He added it has once again caused the shortage of staff in MCL and certain encroachment drives have gone pending.
In view of the shortage of ATPs the anti-encroachment drive in VIP area on Mall Road and other areas is likely to be affected.
ATPs whose contracts were not renewed said MCL has not done right with them as they did work hard for the whole year with full dedication and devotion. They added that they have no involvement in the building controversy, only they were blamed in the end. “MCL’s this treatment is not fair”, they said.
