Ludhiana: Cracks have developed on mastic asphalt layers laid on Dholewal flyover, which have exposed the alleged substandard work carried out by Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL).
Ironically, the road was re-carpeted in the month of June.
Earlier, the MCL authorities had served the notice to contractor concerned regarding the damage on flyover of Dholewal Bridge but again after the re-carpeting work cracks have developed.
It may be recalled here that the premix carpet was laid last year on both sides of the flyover but the potholes had started appearing on the roads after rain in July 2015. Later, the MCL had decided to lay mastic asphalt layer to give claimed that the work will be done according to norms and specifications by strength to these roads and had Public Works Department (PWD) but still cracks and damages can be seen at Dholewal flyover.
Kuldeep Singh Khaira, RTI activist said, “Officers should initiate strict action as they seem lenient over this particular contractor as many officers are aware of this but no strict action has yet been taken. Importantly, officers are not performing well as higher authorities should deduct the salaries of concerned officer who is looking over this issue.”
Gunjot Singh, commuter said, “This is sheer harassment over the part of residents as many of the times, re-carpeting has been done but after few months cracks get develop. MCL should take strict action against the contractor so that this damage be repaired permanently and suffering of people may end.”
