Patiala: It seems as if people are quite relieved now as the crime rate in city has marginally decreased after November 8. It is all attributed to the demonetisation of the big currency notes. According to the city police, the cases of petty crimes have shot down in the past few days.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gurmeet Singh Chauhan while commenting over the prevailing situation states that undoubtedly the tough measures adopted by the police department have resulted in curbing down the major crimes in the city for these many days. He said that keeping in view the forthcoming Punjab assembly elections, police forces are put on toes and as a part of security, regular checkings and vigilance are being conducted during the night hours too.
This all has been done to keep a check over the crime cases in city. Whereas the incidents of snatching have also come to a stand-still as compared to last two years that have witnessed the gradual rise in such cases. Interestingly after demonetisation it seems that the miscreants have also come to know that people are left with little money in their pockets. If sources were to be believed then after November 4 the crime cases came to a halt with no major incident reported from any of the areas.
