Ludhiana: In Ludhiana and Jagraon, people had to face a great difficulty on ninth day due to the ongoing denomination crisis. As around seventy percent ATMs due to lack of cash were shut down in the different parts of Ludhiana and periphery areas including Jagraon.
Despite the decision of Government to mark the ink on the finger of the person who exchanges money did not sort out the problem of shortening queues outside banks. Still a lot of people can be seen outside banks and ATMs for hours, even then they go empty handed to their homes.
Moreover, the maximum banks of the city mainly private ones were seen cashless till noon hours of the day. Most of banks wrote outside the banks that no cash available, which has caused great inconvenience to people who need money for the urgent requirements. Those banks, which received cash till noon hours, also got a limited amount of the cash and their cash got finished within one or two hours only due to the heavy rush outside the banks. Banks also received cash late. Even after the decision of government to mark ink at the hands given no relief to customers. The only good news is for people who have wedding at their home as now they can withdraw money up to two and a half lakh to meet their wedding expenses by showing the wedding cards in the bank.
The main issue of concern is that currency of Rs. 500 has not reached even a single city bank, which is causing more problem for city residents and traders who are facing heavy loss. People who have rupees 2000 note are facing problem in buying the things as the shopkeepers don’t have change to give.
Moreover, the currency of 2000 is also getting less with the banks. However, to deal with the rush now bankers have started giving tokens to the people in the queue and few other banks have done the same. The bankers rue that they are not getting much cash from higher authorities and what can they do and they are not able to perform any work other than giving away currency.
They further added that even if they have to go for the natures’ call people blame them to leave seats, they said “We are also humans.” In the number of banks people also protested due to the late arrival of cash and of not having the money to meet their daily needs. They were seen furious in all the banks. In Haibowal and other areas rush came to the banks due to which traffic jam is taking place in all the areas of the city leaving citys’ situation high and dry.
