Ludhiana: Despite the transfer to other districts, several officials were still enjoying residency in the government houses in city. However, the officials were intimated by the office of Deputy Commissioner to vacate the houses but even then the officials were glued to the houses in Ludhiana city.
According to the house allotment rules of Punjab government, the officer is supposed to vacate the government residence in two months after the transfer from the city. In Ludhiana city several officials were found violating the rules and staying in the houses for several years. Interestingly, some of the officials were also not paying rent for the government accommodations but still enjoys residency.
Moreover, the majority of the officials also ignored the directions of Public Works Department (PWD) to submit the details of rent deducted from the salaries annually with the department. In the list of officials, who have not vacated their government accommodations despite the transfer were Senior superintendent of Police (SSP) Saheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Snehdeep Sharma who lives in house No.23 A in Rakh Bagh for many years.
Former Deputy Commissioner of Police Narinder Bhargav was also transferred as SSP Fazilka but still staying in house No.16 A of Rakh Bagh. A senior Punjab Police official Gurdeep Sikand was transferred out from the city last year but he has not vacated the house No.19 A. Several notices were served to Sikand by the office of Deputy Commissioner but no avail.
Apart from this some excise and taxation officials including Urvashi Goel, Aakashdeep, Vikram Dev and two others were staying in government accommodations in government houses despite transferred from the city, reveals the records of Deputy Commissioner Office. The list of officials who were not paying rent for staying in government accommodation includes Rajinder Jain, Lecturer at Government College for Boys, police official Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, DSP Rashpal Singh and another Punjab Police official staying in 74- B in Rakh Bagh area.
When asked Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat said they use to serve notices as per the rules and regulation of Punjab government and also charge market rent, if the official ignored notices.
