Ludhiana: Despite ban, illegal business of online lottery is running in several areas across the city, department concerned has failed to take any action on this illegal business. Several retailers are running this online lottery business through online website.
According to the Sources, these retailers are duping the customers by telling people that this lottery draw is from Nepal, but they are managing this business from a parallel website.
The different areas where these retailers are running this illegal business included Gill Road, Cheema Chowk, Janakpuri, Clock Tower, Sangeet Cinema Road.
This online lottery business is running from past eight years. Earlier, Punjab Government charged Rs.50,000 tax from one draw but few months ago government displayed new notification of charging Rs.80,000 from one draw. There are three organizers in Ludhiana who are heading this online lottery system in city. Organizers opposed governments new tax policy of hiking the tax.

Roop Singh Panwar, who runs lottery business of Sugal Damani Company said, “Due to hike in the tax we had stopped the online lottery from September 1, 2014 but there are still some retailers who are running illegal business across the city. We are taking to the government regarding reduction in the tax, lottery will run officially soon.”
