Ludhiana: Despite the directions of Additional Chief Administrator (ACA) of Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) to remove illegal hoardings installed on uni poles and structures in the outskirts of the city, no action has been taken by the field staff so far.
Though the GLADA officials claimed that they have identified illegal hoardings in survey but the hoardings are still at their places, violating the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
On Friday, ACA GLADA JK Jain had directed the Estate Officer and field staff to identify and remove illegal hoardings. Following the directions, a survey was started and field staff had also asked the owners of buildings to remove the hoardings but all in vain.
Junior Engineer (JE) of GLADA, Gurcharan Singh said that on Saturday he had asked the owner of buildings who had installed illegal hoardings but they had sought time to remove hoardings. Despite several attempts, Estate officer (EO), Ram Singh was not available for comments as his mobile number was switched off.
It is pertinent to mention here that the advertisement mafia is earning approximately Rs.1 lakh from each illegal hoarding and paying rent to the owner of buildings on main road but the authorities have turned blind eye.
At Phullanwal Chowk on Pakhowal Road, around 10 big size hoardings are installed on unipoles and structures and buildings. The unipoles and structures are installed in the vacant plots and buildings located in the chowk but no one claims the ownership of unipoles and structures for hoardings. However, the hoardings of different companies are being changed after short interval of time.
Apart from Pakhowal Road, the hoardings are installed on Gill Road, near Toll Plaza on Ludhiana-Jalandhar Highway and on Chandigarh Road, the area which falls under the jurisdiction of GLADA.
