Ludhiana: In another incident of a daylight firing incident in the city, a former Sarpanch of Gill village was shot at 12 rounds of bullets near Gill Bypas on Sunday morning. While the Sarpanch Jasbir Singh ran for his safety in his SUV, he was hit in one of his arms. An alleged gangster Manvir Singh alias Mani with his accomplices is suspected to be behind this attack on the former Sarpanch. According to available information, the accused had fired 12 rounds of bullets on Jasbir Singh.
The latter managed to flee from the spot in his SUV car. The assailants chased him and kept firing on his vehicle. The victim, Jasbir Singh, is a Shromani AKali Dal (SAD) leader and former Sarpanch of the Gill village. He has suffered injury in his arm. The victim is said to be close to Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Darshan Singh Shivalik. The victim has been admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana. Sadar police have registered an FIR against Manvir Singh alias Mani under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms act and his six unidentified accomplices.
The victim managed to flee from the spot in his car. The accused chase him, but he managed to escape. The accused have fired at least 12 bullets on his car. The incident happened when Jasbir Singh reached near Jasdev Singh Nagar, near Gill Bypass, the accused shot at his car after stopping him. The police have also recovered shells from the spot. Gurdev Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar police station, said both Manvir and Jasbir were having some quarrel earlier also. He confirmed that the case has been registered. He added Mani is facing other criminal cases and also got arrested by Delhi cops in a kidnapping case. The police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.
