Thousands of devotees on Saturday thronged the historic Mata Kali Temple here on the first day of the Sharad (Assu) Navratras. The devotees started gathering on temple’s door from Friday’s mid night and lined up to seek darshan and blessings of Goddess Kaali (Goddess Durga Shakti).
The district administration has done a large number of arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Navratris of Sharad. The historic Mall road on which Mata Kaali Temple is situated closed down to curb vehicular traffic and barricades were put up on different sites for easy passage of devotees.
Navratra’s is celebrated in the honour of Goddess Durga and it will be celebrated from October 1 to October 10. The festival is a combination of ritualistic puja and fasting and is accompanied by splendid celebrations for nine auspicious days.
Whereas the Kali Devi Temple Sewa Dal said that it is expected that over one lakh devotees will visit the temple during these Navratras and claimed that adequete arrangements have been made for controlling the rush of the devotees. The Police has been deployed at strength in and around the temple to maintain the law and order and the security of the devotees. Besides this, the Policemen were also deployed in plain clothes for the safety of the people and to curb the pick pocketing and incidents lke snatching. Interestingly the devotees came with liquor bottles and the goats to offer to the deity.
