Ludhiana: The diesel and electric shed is facing shortage of the equipment and staff at the Ludhiana railway station. Infact, shortage of the railway employees from the last one decade in Asia’s biggest diesel and electric shed of Ludhiana railway station the work is getting affected. More than 50 posts are lying vacant in both diesel and electric shed of Ferozepur Division.
As from more than a decade, now the Railways are not making any new recruitment of the employees in diesel and electric sheds of the Ludhiana due to which Northern Railwaymen’s Union carried out number of protests till date at the railway station. Even the national level convention was organised two years ago by All India Loco-Running Staff Association at Loco Complex in Ludhiana under the aegis of the president of the Northern Railwaymen’s Union, Ram Lal, in which the problem of shortage of staff was discussed at large. It was decided to take the issue to the Railway Ministry but nothing has been done till date.
Moreover, All India General Secretary, Northern Railwaymen’s Union, CN Prasad in recent protest has raised the voice against step-motherly treatment of government, especially Railway Ministry with diesel and electric shed employees. The Divisional Secretary, Northern Railwaymen’s Union, Daljit Singh said that they have sent the proposal through concerned authorities number of times but till date no new recruitment has made by them. Diesel and electric shed work is hectic and employees work for overtime for which they are even not being paid. He further said that if their demands would not be fulfilled then they would take certain step against them and come out on the roads to protest against the government and the Railway ministry as well.
He further said that even there is shortage of equipment such as spare parts of the machines which they export from foreign countries. “We have sent various reminders to the higher authorities but to no avail”, he added.
