Bathinda: Disturbed over the biased attitude of police, four members of a family allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Rajasthan feeder canal in Faridkot district. Ironically, the victim mentioned the reason in the suicide note before leaving the house for taking the extreme step.
The four in question are identified as Jagtar Singh (50), Salwinder Kaur (48), Harbhajan Kaur (19) and Parveen Kaur (18). They had left the house two days back and the bodies of the two, Salwinder Kaur and Harbhajan Kaur, were found from the canal in Muktsar district on Thursday.
One surviving daughter of the family, Rajpal Kaur, informed that the suicide note carried the names of Jatinder Kumar, Satpal, Balvir Singh, Lal Singh, Kala Singh and five others, who allegedly abetted them to commit suicide.
She also mentioned that the family had lodged a complaint against the neighbours for assaulting them about a month back but instead of taking action against the accused, the police started building pressure on them to reach a compromise. It is also alleged that the girls in the family were also being threatened of dire consequences for pursuing the case.
After the incident, the police on Thursday swung into action with an assurance to do the needful according to the law.
