Ludhiana:Easy bill scheme of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is putting an extra burden on the pockets of power consumers. The scheme was started for providing ease to the power consumers but Easy bill outlets are allegedly charging extra money. According to the officials, Easy bill outlets are not supposed to charge even one rupee extra from actual bill.
Easy bill outlets are allegedly fleecing the power consumers by charging Rs.20-50 extra according to their particular slab which is totally illegal. According to the rules, these Easy bill outlets cannot charge any extra money from consumers apart from bill amount.
According to the officials of PSPCL, department pays Rs.5 to the particular Easy bill outlet under easy pay bill scheme. They claimed that there are many easy pay bill machines in the city so that residents may not have to stand in a queue to pay their bills.
Manjit Singh, a shop owner near Bharat Nagar Chowk said, “I have given Rs.30 extra on bill amounting for Rs.4,200 to Rajinder Karyana Store. I have requested the karyana store person that extra amount is increasing day by day. As they are also charging according to slabs such as Rs.20 on bill of below Rs.4,000 and Rs.30 if its amounting above Rs.4,000.”
Another resident, Rustamveer Singh, a resident of Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar said, “This is a common problem as most of the retailers are charging extra amount which is sheer harassment for power consumers. The PSPCL should make the power consumers aware regarding this scheme so that no retailer could fleece the consumers for it. Moreover, PSPCL should take strict action against the violators so that Easy bill outlets should not dare to charge extra money.”
NK Sharma, Engineer-in-Chief, PSPCL said, “I will look into the matter and direct the concerned officer to take action so that power consumers should not have to pay extra money”.
