Ludhiana: Future of the 46 villages of Ludhiana is still in the lurch regarding their inclusion in the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana limits. As from last three years proposal regarding it is moving from place to another and many meetings were organised by the authorities with big political leaders but to no avail. No one is ready to increase a limit even a single kilometer from the current limits, feeling that it would further burden the authorities. Moreover, MCL don’t have sufficient funds to maintain the present limit of the corporation then the condition would get worse for residents.
The proposal to exceed the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana limits was out forth by the MLA from the Gill constituency Darshan Singh Shivalik for the welfare of 46 villages in the coming years. As after 1977, municipal corporation limit has not been increased by the municipal corporation authorities. If anytime it would be done, this exercise is expected to provide residents with facilities like sewerage, drainage, better roads and proper waste management, among others, at par with city residents living in municipal limits. However, it failed to materialise till date.
MLA Darshan Singh Shivalik, “At present each village gets about Rs. 2 lakh as the grant for development, which is insufficient. But after they are get included in the MC limits, they could even get Rs. 1 crore per village for the development of the roads, installation of street lights, water supply and waste management. But the residents of these areas are still hopeful over the proposal and want it to be implemented. He further added that he is still trying his best to get this proposal the green signal.
A bank employee, Darshan Kakkar of Jande Village, said, “It is good move by the Municipal Corporation to include our area within Municipal Corporation limits. As of now, we are getting meagre facilities, but after our areas come under MC limits, I am sure state of our area will improve and we will have the better facilities.”
