Khanna: For the non payments of crops in the Asia’s largest grain market in Khanna, the commission agents and farmers protested against the government and administration and blocked traffic on Friday.
The commission agents, farmers and laborers also Gherao the office of Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and demanded the immediate release of payments against the crops. The protesters also announced strike in grain market.
President of commission agents president Sukhwinder Singh Cheema said that the payment of Rs. 14,500 Crore is pending in the state. If the government will not take their demands seriously and not release payments in next 24 hours they will launch agitation throughout the state.
Former Chairman of market committee Harbans Singh Rosha said that due to non payments and demonetisation the trade in Asia’s largest grain market is almost dead. He warned that if the payments will be released till Monday they will block national highway. The protesters also submitted memorandum to tehsildar Saandhura Singh and wanted the state government to intervene. During the protest, Gurdial Singh, Prem Sharma, Yadwinder Singh Jandiali, Bharpoor Chand Bector, Rajpal Singh Gill, Hamir Singh, Jagtar Singh, Satish Kumar, Sanjeev Dhammi, Rachhpal Singh besides several others were also present.
