People have to send their children to Chandigarh, Bathinda or Delhi for higher education
Ferozepur: Since the Independence this district suffered neglect. No political party tried to improve life in this urban and rural district which has four constituencies. Neither the Congress nor the BJP could bring it at par with the fast developing districts of the state. In the newly carved district of Ferozepur, there are four assembly segments including Zira, Ferozepur City, Ferozepur (Rural) and the Guruharsahai, but none of the constituencies has witnessed the overall development.
The Ferozepur city constituency comprises city and cantonment areas which include 68 villages adjoining the Indo Pak Border. The major problem of the constituency is that there is no multi-speciality hospital which can provide treatment in case of emergency. The people of the district have no other option but to rush to big cities like Ludhiana, Bathnda, Jalandhar and Chandigarh. A satellite center of the PGI for Ferozepur was sanctioned by Manmohan Singh Government, but due to the rift between the ruling party and the MLA who is in the opposition.
The roads in are in a miserable condition. No large industrial unit, no higher educational institute. People have to send their children to Chandigarh, Bathinda or Delhi for higher education. The district also has poor availability of drinkable water. Sewerage and Fire Brigade services are almost negligible. In case of an emergency fire brigades from other towns have to be called.
In Zira constituency apart from Zira and Makhu and Mallawala towns, there are about 250 villages. There are some 20 villages like Fero ke to Botian wala, Lehra Rohi, Gadriwala, New Zira Santuwala, where the roads are in a bad shape. Almost all villages still do not have sanitation and sewerage facility.
In Zira town there is no park for the people to recreate. Unruly traffic adds to the miseries of the residents. There is no availability treated drinking water. There is no institute for higher education.
The same are the problems of the people of the Ferozepur Rural and Guruharsahai constituencies as there is no multi-speciality hospital, no higher educational Institute and coupled with non-existent sewerage and water supply.
In Guruharsahai faces the problem of connectivity. There is no regular bus service, most of the buses ply on the Ferozepur-Fazilika route. The passengers have to depend on the tempo service which too is rickety. The railways also fail to satisfy people as they have few boggies. There is a government college in the area that became functional due to the efforts of Rana Sodhi, a congress leader. The college has very few seats and is not able to provide education to the large number of students.
There are about 220 villages in Guruharsahi constituency which are still deprived of basic facilities. In Ferozepur Rural constituency apart from Mamdot and Talwandi towns, there are about 270 villages. Though Mamdot is a tehsil. All the streets of the town are in a miserable condition, with poor sewerage. Though the MLA of ruling SAD tried to develop the area, but many of the link roads are still in miserable condition.
