Ludhiana:A police constable posted in PCR squad died in accidental firing outside the residence of MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali at Hambran Road on Monday afternoon. The victim was hit by bullet fired from the pistol of another PCR cop.
The victim sustained bullet in his chest and was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared brought dead. The deceased has been identified as head constable Nirdesh Singh.
At the time of incident, MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali was not present in the house. His security personnel heard the sound of gunshot and rushed the victim to hospital in pilot gypsy.
Harvir Singh, younger brother of MLA said that the PCR cops remain present at halt point outside his residence.
On Monday also head constable Surjit Singh and Nirdesh were present at halt point. Few hours before the incident, the cops received a call regarding inspection by department on Tuesday and Surjit Singh started cleaning his pistol. While cleaning gunshot was fired accidentally which hit Nirdesh, leaving him dead.
On being informed, senior police officials reached the spot and recorded the statement of eyewitness and PCR cop Surjit Singh. The police have questioned Surjit Singh and he denied any dispute with his colleague Nirdesh.
Meanwhile, the police has sent the body at civil hospital for post mortem. The police is waiting for the family members of deceased and will proceed further after recording their statement.
