Ludhiana: During the VII Conference of Indian Meat Science Association on “New horizons for augmenting meat production and processing to ensure nutritional security, food safety and environmental sustainability” was inaugurated on Thursday by the Department of Livestock Products Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), O P Arora, Chairman of AOV Group of Companies claimed, “We will be soon having Punjabs’ first plant of pig meat.
From last 25 years, meat industry is the only company having chicken and mutton. These products are being exported to more than 25 countries.”
He said that in Punjab, there are lots of farmers for pigs but there is no slaughter house for it. Pork is an excellent source of many vitamins and minerals, including thiamin, zinc, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, niacin, phosphorus, and iron.
Importantly, animal farming is nothing without slaughter house. He along with his another group members claimed that they also requested the CM of Punjab to make the slaughter house available but the growth in getting profit from pork hindered as earlier there was no slaughter house.
Moreover, they claimed that there is a huge interest for pig meat and once a slaughter will take place in Punjab, it will surely give boost to the farmers. Arora further claimed, “We are not even looking for any kind of financial help or for subsidy for slaughter house.”
A farmer claimed, “It is a rural development and it will get out us from wheat and paddy cycle. Farmers will get an opportunity to do something different and it will also be beneficial for the farmers, for the industry and also for the University. It will surely be a good income source for all of us.”
Along with the farmers, the faculty of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) also are appealing for the development of slaughter house. O.P Arora claimed that we are requesting the villagers to provide them some land for the slaughter house, as it will be a good income source, especially for the villagers (mainly the farmers).
Hoping soon for the development of slaughter house, Arora claimed that it will be the first pig meat plant in Punjab and we are hoping for its development at earliest.
