Ludhiana:The city police have booked five more persons for allegedly committing fraud and obtaining duplicate registration copies of vehicles instead of paying fine for traffic violations.
As many as 222 persons were identified by the district transport office (DTO) and five were booked by division number 5 police last week.
On Wednesday, police of the divisions number 2 and 3 have slapped similar cases against five persons.
The accused have been identified as Ramesh Kumar, Owner of Supreme Engineering International, Stephen Masih, Ramandeep Singh and Sunny Bajaj. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 420 (fraud),199 (false statement made in declaration) and 200 (using as true such declaration knowing it to be false) of the IPC.
The original registration copies of the vehicles of the accused were seized by the traffic police for different traffic violations but instead of paying challan and getting back the registration copies, the accused have obtained duplicate registration copies from the transport department after paying nominal fees.
While applying for the duplicate RCs, the accused have submitted false declaration to the transport department. After scanning the cases, the district transport office has found 222 persons who have obtained duplicate registration copies instead of paying traffic challan.
District Transport Officer (DTO) Dalwinderjit Singh has written a letter to Police Commissioner recommending fraud case against the persons.
Sources said that the accused were slapped with fine of thousands but they opted to get duplicate registration copies by paying fees of Rs.200 only.
Now the district transport department is also scanning the persons who have got duplicate driving licences without paying fine of traffic violations.DP
