Mohali: Fountains in Mohali parks have turned into nightmare for residents. nearly all the fountains in parks have become defunct presenting a scenario of desolate and barren places. In some parks, water remains stagnant in them. These places have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes inviting diseases like dengue, malaria etc.
Daily Post correspondent after visiting the parks of Mohali, especially Silvi Park Phase 10, special park Sector 70, Kargil Park, neighborhood park of Phase 11 saw that fountains were in the worst condition. Water stored in hoses of these fountains was dirty and stinky.
Musical fountain in park of Sector 70 looked like a graveyard location. Wires of speakers were found snapped from many places. Muddy water in the water tank itself described its filthy condition, negligence on the part of of its maintenance staff.
In the neighbourhood park Phase-11 fountain has become an antique peace. Water in this fountain was stinking like sewerage making an easy house for mosquitoes. According to residents, no employees from GMADA had visited the place for many months. Not even water standing in these foundations was drained out and the garbage had spoiled the beauty of these parks, said the residents.
Social worker Atul Sharma said. “GMADA has to maintain these foundations as they are the attraction of parks. Unfortunately it seems that they are least bothered about these parks.’’ Senior lawyer Gaurav Saini said, “Parks have greenery, but lack basic amenities as there is no water in fountains.
GMADA Chief Administrator Varun Roojam said,
“I will ask for a report from the engineering wing and will
see where actually the lapse is. I will do my best to improve the situation in the public interest.’’
