City witnesses rainfall of 23 mm, recorded till 2.30 pm on Saturday
Ludhiana: Continuous three hours rainfall flooded the city with water and made most of the city areas paralysed. City witnessed rainfall of 23 mm, recorded till 2.30 pm here on Saturday. Rainfall also affected the areas near Gandha Nullah and Buddha Nullah due to overflow of water.
According to the department of School of Climate Change and Agro Metrology, Punjab Agricultural University has recorded rainfall of 23mm till Saturday afternoon as rainfall held few days before was recorded as 27.8 mm on Wednesday. PAU observatory experts claimed that more rainfall is predicted in coming two days.
As because of rain the erupted power supply is blasting the claims of state government of surplus power supply. Residents claimed that monsoons had already set in and regular thunderstorm would affect the residents due to erupted power supply.
Meanwhile, several residents claimed that PSPCL failed to provide uninterrupted the power supply services to the power consumers due to which many of the power consumers are filing complaints but PSPCL is not towards resolving the complaints.
According to experts from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), the rain will be beneficial for agriculture sector and also consumption of power will be reduced.
Farmers claimed that this rainfall will speed up the plantation of paddy crops as heavy rainfall is beneficial for the all the crops. As rainfall will also help fodder and vegetables crops, as this rainfall would reduce the pest pressure over the crops.
RAIN AFFECTED AREAS IN CITY
The areas which got affected due to heavy rainfall included Dholewal, Transport Nagar, Samrala Chowk, Ghumar Mandi, Salem Tabri, College Road, Rani Jhansi Road, Dashmesh Nagar, Peeru Banda, Preet Palace Road, near Passport Office, Hambran Road, near Mata Rani Chowk, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Old GT Road, outside Railway Station, National Highway 1 and Ferozepur Road, underpasses on Southern Bypass and various others.
