Mohali : A major gang-war was reported on Sunday evening in Mohali. Two groups of bouncers who were old rivals, had gathered outside bus-stand Phase-8, Mohali at around 5:30 pm. Members of both the groups started gathering both sides of the road which divides Dussehra Ground and bus-stand, Mohali.
According to eye witnesses, there were 30-35 vehicles including SUVs and luxury cars with one group and the other group had 10-11 Vehicles along with SUVs and luxury cars. Both parties started provoking each other by shouting and showing weapons. At around 5:45 pm, both parties started firing in air and within a few moments, they start firing at each other. In the meantime, somebody called the Police Control room and within five minutes PCR vehicles reached the spot. “There were collectively 100 to 125 boys on the spot.” “Members of both the gangs fled away from the spot after hearing police sirens.” said an eye witness. According to the police officials, around 100-150 rounds were fired between both the sides. The police reacted immediately after they got the call.
According to the police officials, two people got injured and wererushed to Sector 32 Hospital, Chandigarh. Two persons were hit by shrapnels of bullets. said a police officer.
Under the police nose
The whole incident happened under the nose of Police Station Phase-8 which is just 50 meters away from the spot. It is to be mentioned that incident happened at a public place. The whole place is surrounded by bus-stand. GMADA building, Vikas Bhawan, Fortis Hospital, Cosmo Hospital and Gurudwara. The police on the one hand is patting its back for quick response, but the incident could not have happened if proper deployment of PCR vehicles and policemen were there.
Both groups of bouncers were old rivals. They already had commited a crime this year in July also at Sector-26 gym. At that time, one person was injured when two others had shot at him while he was exercising in Flexity fitness centre gym. The two accused – identified as Money of Kharar and Gagan of Nayagaon, both in their early 20s, had entered the gym, situated on the first storey, and shot at the victim with a .32-bore country-made gun. The accused were booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Sector-26 Police Station.
