Ludhiana: With an aim to improve the child sex ratio in our country, the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign would be successfully implemented in Ludhiana district and every person of the district would make serious efforts in this regard.
This was informed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Apneet Riyait, while chairing the first meeting of the District level Task Force at Bachat Bhawan, here.
While addressing the meeting, Riyait said that although our country is making efforts for becoming part of developed countries, but sadly, still the girls are not given equal rights like men. She said that in some parts, people do not even let the girl child take birth. Riyait stated that during the Census of 2011, for every 1000 men, the population of girls is 919 across the country and in Punjab, its 893. She said this is a serious issue and every person should take notice of it. The ADC (D) said that in Ludhiana district, this ratio is 860, which is very low as compared even to our national average.
She appealed to all members that they should make serious efforts to make “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign a success. She said that for this issue, not only a particular department or the district administration, but residents of entire Ludhiana district should contribute in this. She said that for improving the child sex ratio, there is an urgent need to change the mindset of people so that people treat girls and boys equally. She said that efforts should also be made to check death of girls at the time of their birth or later on. She assured that in Ludhiana district, the girls would not only be saved but would also be taught. She said that for this purpose, help of all city residents, NGOs and social organisations would be taken. During the meeting, discussion regarding preparing an action plan was also held.
