Nawanshahr: The district unit of Government Teachers’ Union, Punjab has convened a meeting here at Baradari Gardens on September 25 for launching an agitation against the District Education Officer for alleged harassment of teachers by his office. District president Shiv Kumar Vashisht and general secretary Kuldip Singh Daurka in a press statement here today said that the DEO was not implementing the transfer orders and was appointing new teachers on those posts. Besides, the surplus teachers were being harassed by repeatedly asking to give their options in the name of adjustments, said the union leaders. Their other grudges include non-availability of their ACRs, making teachers do innumerable rounds of the office for months together for even small job-related works, they added. The union leaders maintained that as their numerous meetings with the DEO in the past had failed to improve the situation, the union had decided to launch an agitation.
However, DEO Dilbagh Singh on being contacted denied any harassment of teachers and non-implementation of transfer orders by his office. He said he would soon have a meeting with the Union to remove misunderstanding, if any.
