Ludhiana: Local authorities of Government Railway Police (GRP) have written to their higher authorities for sending two reserve battalions for deploying at the local railway station. Sources reveal that the demand for the two reserve battalions has been raised to ensure complete law and order and peace at the local railway station, in view of coming Independence Day.
Confirming this development, Inderjit Singh, SHO, Government Railway Police, Ludhiana told that they had asked for two reserve battalions for railway station at Ludhiana. “There are approximately 50 police personnel in one battalion”, he further revealed.
Further, SHO told that the two reserve battalions one arrived at the local railway station would be additional force to keep a strict vigil on the activities of suspects and anti-social elements, if any, at the railway station.
It may be recalled here that Ludhiana railway station is one of the biggest junctions in the Northern India where lakhs of passengers turnout for both their arrivals and destinations. It is believed that the deployment of additional force at the local railway station will ultimately give a boost to morale of passengers and all others present at the railway station.
Enquiries reveal that the additional police force has been sought in view of the shortage of police personnel with both GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF). Presently, both GRP and RPF personnel are jointly carrying out checking in the trains and also at the platforms, to keep a check on anti-social elements.
The police personnel are also making passengers, vendors and all others to remain vigilant and inform them immediately if they found any suspected object or suspected person during journey or at the platforms.
