Ludhiana: Though several cases of diarrhoea, gastroenteritis and food poisoning occur in the city almost every year, the health department failed to check the unhygienic food being available at most of the roadside eateries. Moreover, most of the vendors are seen serving the eatables without gloves and caps.
Such food stalls keep on serving the unhygienic food to the customers knowing the fact that there will be no checking on them. The cases of diarrhea generally increase with the rise in temperature.
The experts suggested that the health department should organise seminars and camps to make people aware about hygiene and how to keep disease at bay.
The unhygienic food items including junk food, cut fruits and others are being served at such stalls or dhabas. People mainly complained that the owners of these dhabas many a time serve stale food to their customers, as they are least concerned about the health of customers.
According to experts, people should avoid junk and unhygienic food as this may cause infectious diseases like typhoid, gastro-enteritis, viral fever, cold and diarrhea. People should consume boiled and chlorinated water.
Moreover, the street vendors never use gloves or anything to cover their hands. There are many areas, including Hambaran road, Janta Nagar, Dashmesh Nagar, Gill road, Bharat Nagar Chowk and Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar where such unhygienic practice takes place daily.
Dr Avinash Jindal, Head of Medicine at Civil Hospital, Ludhiana said, “People should avoid the intake of unhygienic food available in the streets, as the vendors do not care about serving hygienic food. The cases of diarrhea and gastroenteritis are increasing day by day. Communicable diseases mainly spread due to this and it further welcomes so many health problems.
A resident of Dugri Phase 2, Rakesh Syal said, “So many health problems are happening due to the unhygienic food, which is becoming a common trouble for the humans. People should know the drawbacks of street foods and stop preferring the unhygienic food to stop health issues. As health is very important and for this we should avoid having such unhygienic eatables to live a healthy and happy life.”
