Kapurthala: It seems that no political party and those in governance have worked towards the city’s progress. Many potholed roads and lost sheen in heritage properties is proving to be a setback for this historic city. Many historic buildings like Jagatjit Palace Baradari, Gol Kothi, Nihal Palace, Baghi Khana, Elysee Palace, Qila (Sultanpur Lodhi) among others have been ignored due to administration laxities.
In the last five years, no major developmental was taken by the SAD-BJP led municipal council that has now led to an emotional outburst for city residents.
L & T (Larsen and Toubro), a company which laid down the sewerage system across the city left the work halfway and incomplete. A development assessment stated that the city council was sent an estimate of Rs 21 crore to department of local bodies for development works in 29 wards but only Rs 6 crore was approved by the office, yet no development has been witnessed.
The position of the developmental work in the other constituencies of Kapurthala include Phagwara, Sultnapur Lodhi and Bholath.
In Sultanpur Lodhi, work on the project has not yet started even after five years since its foundation stone was laid.
In Bholath assembly constituency due to personal efforts of sitting MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur some developmental projects like CHC in Begowal and construction of SDM office has been completed but people in this area claim they don’t recive clean drinking water yet.
Paramjit Singh, SAD candidate for forthcoming elections admitted that sewerage system has hit a roadblock and now government has arranged another contractor to complete the left over work. Singh also assured that if he wins the seat he will try to ensure to remove all bottlenecks in his segment.
On the other hand much anticipated Congress candidate from Kapurthala Rana Gurjit Singh said that during last 10 years of SAD-BJP regime, no development has taken place.
