Ludhiana: The incidents of trespassing at the Ludhiana railway station are on increase with every passing day despite regular action being taken by Ferozepur Division Railway authorities. The government railway police (GRP) told that they were imposing hefty fines to those who were trespassing. Ironically, the fine amount of Rs 1000 is charged and even then the people are trespassing.
People are so impatient and do not use the right path to move to other platform and put their lives to risk. It is evident to the fact that strict action by the authorities have failed to deter the trespassers. Passengers continue to get down from the trains and cross the railway tracks illegally. Other than railway passengers, senior citizens, vegetable growers and milkmen who supply milk in the city, become the culprit for the same.
The passengers are reluctant to use the foot over bridge as they have to walk long over them in this scorching heat. In year 2015, total number of 519 culprits were caught under various sections from whom revenue of Rs.2,85,100 was recovered by railways, it includes trespassing, cigarette smoking and unauthorised vending. In the current year (2016) till date, 491 trespassers were caught from whom fine of Rs.1,621,00 was recovered by the authorities at city railway station.
Commandant of Railway Protection Force (RPF), Vinod Kumar said that they try their best to maintain the law and order situation at the Ludhiana railway station. “Only with the collective efforts we can change the things in the larger interest of the passengers”, added RPF Commandant.
