Patiala: The Indian Army is capable of thwarting any challenge from the enemy and its ready to safeguard the interests of the nation at every cost. This was stated by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Black Elephant Division Major General Ajay Singh here on Thursday.
He made these remarks while talking exclusively to Daily Post on the sidelines of the inauguration of the two-day Army mela under the banner ‘Know your Army’ here near the civil aviation club on Patiala-Sangrur highway.
It may be mentioned here that during the two-day Army mela, the Indian Army has put on display his artillery and armoured capabilities for the general public and includes different kinds of tanks, Bofors guns, mortars, military ambulance, military bridges, radars, different caliber pistols and guns etc.
Major General Ajay Singh said that the Army has always played it’s role to safeguard the borders as well as whenever it has been asked to perform internal duties. He said that as far as Kashmir is concerned Indian Army is performing in the best way as it was safeguarding it’s own people there even as the enemy is trying to create unrest there. He said that the Indian Army is ready to protect unity and integrity of the country.
Asked how the Indian Army is prepared to face any challenge from the enemy, he said that initally, it was faced with some shortage of arms and ammunition, but now it has started getting arms and ammunition as the Union government is focussing on it.
He said that the Indian Army has weapons from USA, Russia, Czech Republic as well as many other foreign countries even as the country is going to celebrate the 70th year of its Independence. He said that now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the initiative and has directed the Army to focus on indigenous production of weapons and other warfare equipment and work has already begun on this front.
