Fatehgarh Sahib: Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Hockey team on Thursday defeated the team from Saharanpur by 8-1 on second day of first All India Guru Nanak Dev Gold Cup Women Hockey Tournament. The university vice chancellor Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia informed that Indian Railway team defeated MD Rohtak by 8-1. Similarly, Punjabi University Patiala defeated Haryana XI by 2-1. Team Hockey Punjab defeated team from Gangpur, Orissa by 4-2.
Dr Walia said the national level tournament is being held under the aegis of Hockey India, apex body of hockey in the country and is dedicated to first Sikh master Sri Guru Nanak Dev . He said that it is a matter of immense pride that the University hockey academy, since its inception in the year 2014 has won 19 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 3 bronze medals along with prestigious tournaments like Nehru Gold cup in such a short span.
He added that University is committed to the cause of promoting sports and healthy life style in the region and the state and the Varsity will continue to work tirelessly for the fulfillment of the same.
