Ludhiana: High drama was witnessed in Mullanpur after a police inspector posted at Jagraon allegedly slapped the driver of tractor-trolley for not giving passage.
The highhandedness of the police inspector sparked protest as the driver of tractor-trolley called his supporters and blocked main road in protest.
During the protest, the traffic remained jam for around two hours.
The protesters demanded action against the errant cop. The protest was lifted after the influential persons of the area intervened and settled the matter.
Gagandeep Singh alias Gagna of Village Rakba said that he had came to Mullanpur from his village to sell fodder on tractor-trolley. When he was returning back, Inspector Lovedeep Singh, SHO at Police Station Sidhwan Bet blow horn of the police vehicle and demanded passage.
As the road was narrow, there was no space to give passage and after crossing the narrow passage he gave passage to the police vehicle. While crossing, the police vehicle was touched with trolley but nothing was damaged, claimed Gagandeep.
He alleged that the Inspector came to him and slapped several times in full public view. The area residents, shopkeepers also turned there and condemned the attitude of the police personnel. Later, the residents of
Rakba village also turned on the spot and blocked the road in protest.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dakha, Ajayraj Singh, Inspector Kulwant Singh, SHO at police station Mullanpur Dakha, Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, SHO at Police Station Jodhan along with police personnel reached at the spot and tried to pacify the protesters, but all in vain.
The protesters were adamant to their demand to take action against errant police personnel. Later, Sarpanch and local leaders of Akali Dal intervened and pacified the protesters and settled the matter between the police personnel and the driver of tractor-trolley.
