Ludhiana: Commuters and pedestrians are a harried lot due to irregular stoppages of buses in front of Preet Palace near Atam Chwok which leads to major traffic congestion even during the daytime. Authorities concerned have failed to pay attention towards the issue.
Hundreds of private buses stop in front of the Preet Palace which is not authorized spot located by the authorities of the department. Interestingly, police officers can be seen next to the spot but still people have to suffer from traffic problems.
Moreover, privately hired agents who are employed to collect money from the buses had installed the barricades at the half of the road without any permission for the separate way for the stoppages of buses. The area is always crowded with vehicles due to which residents and commuters have to suffer from several problems.
More than 20 feet of the road has been covered by the private buses due to which vehicles get crowded at half of the road. Still many of the buses use to come over the barricades due to which most of the road gets covered with buses during morning time the stretch from us stand to Preet Palace crowded with vehicles.
Most of the times bus drivers use to stop the buses at the middle of the road. Due to this people are suffering from long traffic snarls problem.
People have to take another way to reach their destination during morning time as traffic snarls occurred regularly at that place. There is passport office at few steps behind the spot. Some of the people claimed that the appointment in passport office gets late due to the traffic snarls at that stretch.
Commuters and residents have appealed to the authorities to take required steps to the menace as while crossing form this stretch is a herculean task.
Paramjit Singh commuter said, “Traffic is the regular problem near the area as my shop is near to Atam Nagar chowk.
Due to crowded vehicles all the time, the area gets polluted. Authorities should remove all these barricades to streamline the traffic at this particular area so that people should not take alternative way to reach the destination”.
