Ludhiana: The Northern Railways would submit the report regarding Jagraon bridge in the month of November only as informed by Divisional Railway Manager, Ferozepur Division, Anuj Parkash, which would be a good news not only for the Municipal Corporation authorities but city residents also. As after this, tenders would be floated and work would start at a faster pace to start the lifeline bridge of the city, Jagraon Bridge as on this bridge daily lakhs of vehicles pass through.
It is pertinent to mention that from past few months Municipal Corporation Ludhiana and railway officials are in conversation for the reconstruction of this bridge as the railway authorities had closed one side of bridge for heavy vehicles while declaring it unsafe. The MC officials had requested the railways to increase the width of the bridge from 7.5 meters to 10.5 meters but railways had refused to do the same. Consequently, the MC Commissioner wrote a letter to railways that they should once again visit the site and increase its width keeping in view the increase in the flow of traffic in the coming years.
On Wednesday, divisional engineer from Ferozepur Division Kulwant Singh had come for visiting the bridge site again. He visited bridge site and also conducted a meeting with XEN Rahul Gagneja. He told that railways have agreed that they would allow increment in the width of the bridge along with a footpath on one side. He further told that project would take place at design and built basis according to which when the railways would float the tenders then interested contractors would submit their methodology and design for this project and then it would be approved by railway authorities followed by which work would be allotted. MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that it is a great relief for the authorities and city residents.
