Jalandhar: The doaba region of Punjab was all set to witness the official launch of BJP Punjab’s election campaign for the assembly elections 2017 on Sunday.
While BJP National President Amit Shah would be visiting Jalandhar for booth level leaders conference at the local dussehra ground in Guru Gobind Singh Avenue, Rashtriya Sawayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat would be visiting Hoshiarpur on Sunday.
The parallel visit of both the top leaders of BJP and RSS was seen as a major boost for the party rank and file ahead of the assembly elections. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat would be addressing RSS leaders and workers meet in Hoshiarpur.
Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and BJP Punjab chief Vijay Sampla along with the state BJP leaders spent the last week supervising the programme. Earlier on Friday, Sampla held a video conferencing session with booth level workers ensuring a massive show of strength.
It is pertinent to mention here that post the murder of RSS state leader Brigadier Jagdish Gagneja (retd), this was the first visit of Bhagwat. The RSS under the supervision of Brig Gagneja expanded its ‘shakhas’ across the state, which was a major boost to the membership drive of the BJP in Punjab.
BJP Party leaders maintained that the parallel visit of Amit Shah and Mohan Bhagwat was aimed at streamlining the functioning of the RSS and BJP cadre ahead of the assembly elections. Notably, the huge victory of Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla from Hoshiarpur was a big booster for the party in this part of Punjab.
Meanwhile, the traffic police under Jalandhar Commissionerate have diverted the majority routes in the city and periphery in view of Amit Shah’s visit and security measures. The local Guru Gobind Singh Avenue has virtually turned into a fortress with a heavy posse of police in and around the city.
The Commissionerate police have also released the diverted traffic route chart for the convenience of the public. “All preparations have been made while traffic police has been adequately deployed to ensure smooth flow of traffic and security”, traffic cops maintained.
