Jalandhar: Considering winn ability as the only factor, the Congress on Thursday allotted the Phillaur (reserve) seat to Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, the wife of sitting Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary.
Though the prominent Chaudhary family of Doaba managed to retain their home turf Phillaur seat but it came as a jolt to the political aspirations of Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, the son of Santokh Chaudhary.
Vikramjit Chaudhary who remained the president of Punjab Youth Congress (PYC) has been actively working in Phillaur assembly segment, hence claiming his stake on the seat.
A case in point was that he had actively started reaching out to the grass roots level people in his constituency from the last one year. But, the first jolt to his political aspirations came, when ex-SAD MLA Sarwan Singh Phillaur joined Congress, triggering the rumour that he might be fielded from Phillaur seat. It was also learnt that the Congress high command was likely to field Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary from Jalandhar West seat, the lone urban reserve segment of Jalandhar, as the candidate for this seat is yet to be announced.
Sources maintained that Santokh Singh Chaudhary was strongly lobbying for his son but the Congress high command zeroed in on the name of Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary. The Jalandhar MP camped in Delhi all these months but failed to get a ticket for his son.
