Ludhiana: Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy added another feather in their cap by winning Silver Medal in Scottish Open 2016 played at Glasgow from November 23-27. It was a grand prix world ranking tournament.
In semi-finals, Pranaav and Sikki defeated Danish player Mathias Christiansen and Sara Thygesen by 21-18, 23-21. In finals, they lost race for the gold medal to Goh Soon and Shevon Jemie 21-13, 18-21, 16-21. It was a very hard fought match and was extended to 3 sets. Players from 45 countries participated in this tournament.
Sikki Reddy and Pranaav started playing as a mixed doubles players’ only 6 months back and their ranking in the world at that time was 156. They started training vigorously under the watchful eyes of Chief National Coach Pullela Gopichand and specially appointed Doubles Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her.
Pranaav had to work very hard as he has a shoulder injury for 4 months. With their hard work, they started playing well and they won gold medal in Yonex Brazil Open in September 2016.
Continuing with their good team work, they won mixed double titles in Yonex Russian Open in October 2016. In this tournament, they defeated All England Tournament Champion Ivanov. After this tournament, they won Bronze medal in Denmark Open. These performances took their ranking to 22 which is highest of any Mixed Doubles Indian players. At present, they will be playing in Welsh Open Championship in Cardiff (UK).
We are hopeful that they will again perform well in this tournament. Pranaav will also be performing in Indian Badminton League to be played in Germany. He has been selected by Bangalore team for Rs. 10 lakhs. He will be playing with top players of the world. Pranaav has already represented in previous two Badminton Leagues.
