Ludhiana: The team of Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana (MCL) engineers under the aegis of Superintendent Engineer, Pawan Sharma and other railway engineers carried out a joint inspection of the Jagraon Bridge on Wednesday morning.
The team members took the measurement of both the sides of bridge to make a joint report after signing which the map would be made for the reconstruction of the Jagraon Bridge.
Sources revealed that the railway authorities did not have any proper information regarding the distances of measurements as their higher authorities did not provide them with proper piece of information before inspection. The bridge is closed since July, but the joint inspection is being carried out after a long time, despite the fact, this bridge is a bottleneck of the city. Moreover, still inspection was carried out by the Ferozepur Division only and Delhi team would also carry out a check further.
Rahul Verma, Traffic Expert said, “The work of the Jagraon Bridge is going at a slow pace. It should fasten up. After a long gap, joint inspection has been carried out. Moreover, in the digital world the Railways is still sending the letters of communication by post only. The Railways are expected to send the details of today’s inspection approximately after 74 days, after which map would be made. In this way, its reconstruction would take a lot of time, which is not in the larger interest for the city residents who daily have to move through the traffic jams of the Ludhiana.”
Earlier due to the problem of funds this project was delayed but later watching the urgency of situation the MCL agreed to bear entire cost of re-construction of one side of Jagraon Bridge and got approved in the F&CC meeting. The expense of amount Rs.11.05 crore for bridge has been passed.
