Ludhiana: Starting their two-day agitation, the lawyers of District Bar Association (DBA) held a protest demonstration outside the Sessions Court on Thursday in protest against the shifting of Juvenile Justice Board Court in Shimlapuri area and the alleged misbehavior of a judicial magistrate with the lawyers. Their strike would continue on Friday also.
On Thursday morning, at a General House Meeting of the District Bar Association (DBA), the lawyers decided to strongly oppose the shifting of Juvenile Justice Board Court from the court premises to the Shimlapuri area and demanded immediate shifting back of above said court to the District Court Complex again as the lawyers were facing problems to attend the said court at a faraway place from court complex. The lawyers also decided to boycott the juvenile court till it is shifted back to the courts complex.
Further in the meeting, it is discussed that several complaints had been received from the lawyers against a Judicial Magistrate about his alleged misbehavior with the lawyers, so it is decided to fully boycott the court of that magistrate and it was demanded that work should be withdrawn from said Judicial Officer immediately. After the general house meeting, a large number of lawyers protested strongly outside the Sessions Court and observed a complete strike on Thursday. Senior Judicial Officers tried to pacify the lawyers, but the lawyers decided to continue strike on Friday too.
According to Secretary DBA Jaswinder Singh Sibal and vice president Vipin Saggar, lawyers are facing problems, so strike will be continue on Friday and a future course of action will be decided in the General House Meeting of DBA to be held on Saturday. They said if their demands are not met with, their agitation would continue. They further said that the Juvenile Justice Board court had been shifted to Shimlapuri area without informing the lawyers on September 26. It should be shifted back nearby court complex, they demanded.
