Ludhiana: The city hospitals are flooded with the patients of dengue and chikunguniya, but Municipal Corporation Ludhiana and Health Department claim that these diseases are less fatal this year. As meeting of members of the Executive City Urban Health Society took place on Friday under the chairmanship of the Municipal Corporation, Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori.
In the meeting, the officials from the health department claimed that less dengue cases have been reported this year as compared to the previous year. MC officials claimed that it was due to regular fogging that lesser confirmed cases of dengue have come to light till now.
In meeting apart from MC, officials from various departments also participated. From health department Civil Surgeon Dr. Renu Chattwal and doctors from Ludhiana, Khanna, Jagraon, Samrala were also there.
As per the data of health department till October 27, total 575 cases have been tested positive for dengue whereas last year there were total 1876 confirmed cases of dengue and till October 27, 1089 cases were reported positive.
Meanwhile, the MC officials informed in the meeting that from the month of May they had started checking and challaning drive in the city and they were imposing fine on the people if they were finding larvae in their premises. The officials claimed that they have sent 366 challans to the court while 350 challans are in the process.
Apart from this, the officials had started conducting intense fogging in the city ward wise. MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that regular fogging is being conducted in the city and apart from this, they are challenging people.
He said that officials have been told to continue the joint drives so that cases should not increase. Meanwhile, the civil surgeon Dr. Renu Chattwal said that it was relief that this year the number of cases were less than previous year and they would try that it should remain under control. She further told that in the meeting, other issues like vector-borne diseases, water-borne diseases and because of garbage were also raised and Municipal Corporation Commissioner has directed all officials to work jointly to tackle situation.
