The city police confiscated liquor, allegedly being smuggled in an ambulance of a private hospital, here today. The driver of the ambulance fled the spot. The police are trying to find out the role of the private hospital in the case, if any.The police acted on a tip-off provided by liquor contractors Gurpreet Singh Kataria and Rinku Narula. They had alleged that smuggling by using a hospital ambulance was going on for several days.
The incident came to light when the contractors got information that an ambulance was ferrying liquor brought from outside the city. They followed the ambulance and also informed the police about it. They learnt that the ambulance had supplied around 10 boxes of liquor to some place.
As the police team intercepted the ambulance outside the hospital, the driver fled. The police recovered a liquor box from the vehicle. It has been alleged that liquor was being smuggled from outside the city and sold in the city areas. Cantt SHO Sushil Kumar said the matter was under investigation. No case has been registered so far.
