The authorities also wanted to conduct the drive before the next hearing of the case and this time they took the strict action against the encroachments in the Ludhiana city.
It is worth mentioning that the slum dwellers have encroached upon the land from last around 32 years even when LIT authorities have already sold 60 per cent of the total area to other buyers. Team of LIT officials reached the spot at around 11am with the police force and removed remaining encroachments of area in city. But these slum dwellers had voting cards also and electronic appliances including TV, Fridge, Dish TV, AC came out of the slums when the authorities asked the slum dwellers to vacate the slum set up by them watching which authorities were also surprised how the poor people have so costly things with them in their jhuggis.
The Superintending Engineer, Ludhiana Improvement Trust, R.K Garg said that the proper notices were served to the slum dwellers and they have been asking them to vacate the land for long time.
“Today also we have removed the Jhuggis but we did not face any problem as now remaining Jhuggi people left their places themselves even before they came ”, he added.
