Ludhiana: Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) failed to seal the two community centres at Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar on Friday as heavy police force was accompanied along with LIT. However, drive was stopped after political interference.
Despite cancellation of allotment, the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) has allegedly failed to take possession of the community centres of H-I blocks and C block of Bhai Randhir Singh (BRS) Nagar.
In October, the additional chief secretary of the local bodies department had dismissed the appeal against the eviction orders of two community centres. Following this, the LIT has also served notice to the welfare societies to vacate the community centres.
Brar further alleged that LIT is deliberately delaying the move to take possession of these community centres due to interference by a political leader of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal.
President of Maha Sabha, NGO, and complainant, Col JS Brar alleged that the LIT authorities are not taking required action to take possession of these community centres which are still being run by the welfare society of H-I blocks and C block of Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar.
“As the appeal has been cancelled now, it is the responsibility of the LIT to initiate process to take possession of these community centres,” he said.
The information obtained by RTI activist, Baljeet Singh, had revealed that these community centres were constructed without taking any approval from LIT. The complainant had also alleged that the welfare societies had failed to pay pending amount against the allotment of land for community centres.
Sources said that some people have already booked these community centres for wedding events in coming days.
LIT executive officer Paramjit Singh said, “We have already issued notices to the welfare societies to vacate the land. However, they have filed another appeal before the secretary to review the previous decision. We will file our reply to the secretary soon.”
LIT SE Rakesh Garg said, “I had gone to take possession but due to some pending works in that case, LIT chairman has told to stop the drive”.
Despite repeated attempts, Kamal Chatly, MLA West candidate from BJP was not available for comments.
