Ludhiana: Though Shiromani Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have announced candidates for rural constituencies of Ludhiana district but the urban constituencies of district are yet to see the face of candidates.
All the three major parties, Congress, Bhartiya Janta Party (alliance partner of SAD) and Lok Insaaf Party (alliance partner of AAP) has not announced candidates for urban constituencies of Ludhiana.
In Ludhiana East constituency, Shiromani Akali Dal has again fielded sitting MLA Ranjit Singh Dhillon and independent councillor Daljit Singh Bhola is face of Aam Aadmi Party. Once a close aide of independent MLA bains brothers, Bhola has joined AAP few months ago and got ticket. However 19 Congress leaders have applied for the party ticket from this constituency but party may play bet on former union minister and former MP from Ludhiana Manish Tewari.
The election campaign is yet to gear up in Ludhiana West as only Aam Aadmi Party has announced its candidate yet. AAP candidate Ahbab Singh Grewal has started door to door campaigning but Congress and BJP is yet to announce its candidate. Sitting MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu is all set to get Congress ticket again while the talks between Sad and BJP are on regarding swap of the seats. In 2012 elections Rajinder Bhandari contested on BJP ticket but lost to Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu. If the seat will be swapped with SAD, senior party leader and advisor to chief minister, Maheshinder Singh Grewal will be the candidate from constituency.
All the major parties are yet to announce their candidate from Ludhiana North constituency. Known as the bastion of Congress party five times MLA Rakesh Pandey may get Congress ticket again. Eyeing on election ticket, former BJP district president Parveen Bansal is inaugurating development projects.
If the leaders of Lok Insaaf party are to be believed, independent councillor Randhir Singh Sibia, close aide of MLA Simarjit Singh Bains will contest on ticket of AAP- Insaaf party alliance.
In Ludhiana South Constituency, the two old political rivals will be again in ring. The Shiromani Akali Dal has shifted former minister Hira Singh Gabria to Ludhiana South constituency from Atam Nagar. Rival of Hira Singh Gabria, independent MLA Simarjit Singh Bains is also set to contest elections from South instead of Atam Nagar. Last time, both Gabria and Bains had contested elections from Atam Nagar constituency and Bains registered victory. Meanwhile, Congress is looking for a new face as the party lacks strong candidate from constituency.
Shiromani Akali Dal has played bet on new face from Atam Nagar constituency by fielding Gurmeet Singh Kular who is new face in politics whereas Congress is yet to finalise its candidate from Atam Nagar.
From Ludhiana central constituency sitting MLA Surinder Dawar is likely to be Congress candidate again while BJP and AAP is yet to finalise its candidate. The Congress is also planning to shift Dawar to North constituency and sitting North MLA to central constituency. Lok Insaaf Party claimed that they have got central seat from AAP in a deal of alliance and independent councillor Gurpreet Khurana is likely to be the candidate of Lok Insaaf party- AAP alliance.
From rural constituencies of Ludhiana i.e. Gill and Jagraon, Akali Dal has again allocated ticket to sitting MLAs Darshan Singh Shivalk and Manpreet Singh Ayali. In Dakha constituency SAD candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali and AAP candidate HS Phoolka will be again face to face. Both have contested against each other in Lok Sabha elections but lost to Congress leader Ravneet Singh Bittu.
While Aam Aadmi Party has fielded new face from Gill constituency which has highest number of voters in sate, the retired bureaucrat Dr Amar Singh has started campaigning despite Congress has not formally announced his candidature.
This time Jagraon is set to get female MLA as AAP and Akali Dal had allocated ticket to female candidates. The Congress if also looking for female face and wife of Rajya Sabha member Shamsher Singh Dullo is likely to be the party candidate from Jagraon. AAP has given ticket to school teacher Satwant Kaur Manuke and Akali Dal has fielded Amarjit Kaur Sahoke.
