Ludhiana: Soon, railway passengers of Ludhiana among other parts of the country can enjoy explore levitation-based train systems. As India has received six proposals in the response to the expression of interest (EoI) floated in the recent past with higher railway authorities. The Indian entities or individuals who submitted the proposals include Agile Setu Private Limited, Medha Servo Drives Private Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and Sharad M. Marathe. American Maglev Technology Inc. from the US and Swiss Rapide AG from Switzerland have expressed interest.
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Ferozepur Division, Anuj Parkash said that Indian Railways exercise is aimed at bringing in levitation train systems to the country, as part of its pursuit to increase speed of trains on its network, which often faces congestion
EoI invited companies to design, build, operate and maintain the levitation train systems for both passenger and cargo transport on public-private partnership basis, keeping in mind, the rush in the trains of the country. He further informed that Maglev stands for magnetic levitation, and is a transport system that uses magnetic levitation to suspend and propell vehicles with the magnets without touching ground. Maglev trains are said to be fastest trains in the world. With other parts of the country, different railway stations of Ferozepur would also be covered.
It is worth mentioning that regarding these proposal experts cautioned that center government should ensure that projects are kept cost effective. They think that key will be the cost effectiveness of the technology and the railways should be looking to significantly improve on the handling of freight.
