Jalandhar: Expediting investigation, a Jalandhar Court sent the main accused and his wife in the murder of Manish Luthra in liquor mafia case to two-day police custody on Saturday.
The main accused Ujagar Singh and his wife Nirmal Kaur were sent to police custody while their minor son was sent to Juvenile Justice Home in Hoshiarpur. Ujagar Singh was arrested along with his wife and son from Goindwal
Sahib in Tarn Taran district.
Manish Luthra, a resident of Janak Nagar in Basti Sheikh locality was chased by the accused and murdered in the residential locality with sharp edged weapons. The crime took place allegedly after Luthra opposed the sale of liquor in the locality.
Notably, Ujagar Singh was facing liquor and drug smuggling cases and his notoriety was a talk of the area. Even though local residents claimed that it was liquor mafia behind the crime, police stated that the murder was the result of a scuffle between both the parties. The police has yet to recover the weapon used in killing Luthra.
Cops claimed that on the night of crime, Manish Luthra had gone to settle dispute between his friend Manu Kalra and Ujagar’s son. Kalra was a property dealer.
Within no time, Ujagar’s son called his father, who reached with his accomplices leading to the murder of Manish in a fit of rage.
