Bathinda: A resident of Kothe Inder Singh Wale in Bathinda was arrested and another booked for taking the money for the recruitment of police constables at Bathinda.
alluring the constables by pretending his contacts with senior police officials at Bathinda. The accused have been identified as Sharandeep Singh and Satpal Singh, resident of Faridkot
Superintendent of police (headquarters) Nanak Singh said that the accused used to allure constables by claiming to have relations with senior police officers which can facilitate their recruitments in the police, and extort money from them.
“Accused had fixed rate of `7.5 lakh per candidate and took advance money worth `8.50 lakh from seven applicants of Bathinda and nearby area. `50, 000 have been recovered from arrested accused while rest of money is with accused Satpal Singh who is absconding,” said Singh, adding that police will also be questioning those who paid the accused.
Accused Sharandeep is pursuing diploma in physical education from Khalsa College in Patiala while Satpal has done Master of Arts (music). Satpal’s father is also serving as an assistant sub-inspector in Punjab police and is posted in Patiala.
Singh said that searches are being conducted to nab the absconding accused. “We are interrogating the Sharandeep to know about the claims of links with police officials and anybody found involved will not be spared,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Mansa police also have arrested two persons for allegedly cheating two persons by taking money from them in the name of recruiting them as constables in the ongoing recruitment process.
